How does Radio Frequency work for dry eye: Radio Frequency, using the TempSure Envi device, delivers bulk heating to the tissue of the face and eyelids. The most common cause of dry eye is caused by dysfunction in the Meibomian glands, which produce the lubricating layer of the tear film. The heat produced by Radio Frequency liquefies the oil in the glands resulting in improved tear quality. The heat is delivered deep into the tissues to regenerate collagen and to deliver anti-inflammatory mediators and white blood cells to the eyelids. The results are improved oil production as well as an aesthetic benefit of skin tightening and wrinkle reduction. Radio Frequency is safe for all skin types.

What is involved in the treatment: This non-invasive procedure is performed in office over a series of treatments and may be recommended in conjunction with Intense Pulsed Light treatments. Heat is applied to the skin surrounding the eye as well as directly to the eyelids following insertion of protective eye shields. Following the procedure your doctor will use a device to express the heated oil out of the glands. Patients will experience a heated sensation similar to a hot stone massage. Relief is often experienced after one procedure, however it is most effective with a series of procedures.
